AI Musicking

for ensemble and live electronics, 2025

AI Musicking is a series of performances exploring the possible roles of musical AI in a contemporary ensemble setting. Connected to the artistic research project of the same name in Royal Conservatoire Antwerp, the work is based on the creation of generatical musical AI models based on the contemporary performance practices of the musicians. As these models generate sounds in the style of the musicians, they are put in a context where they exist and co-create together with the performers. Each sound made by a musician can be interpreted and be followed up by any of the AI models present in the ensemble. The resulting dense connection of possibilities opens up a hybrid space where musical meaning emerges from the interplay of embodied performance and algorithmic generation.
