… and we look into the waves

for ensemble, 2021

… and we look into the waves is a meditative dive into sound. As we plunge our ears into noise, a note, or a chord, we realize that sound never stops, but always changes over time. When the sound stays still, our ears and perception starts changing. The primary inspiration of this piece is an eternal “zoom” into a sound: Creating new gestures and gestures, noises that phase in and out. Contrasting this zoom is an equally dense rhythmical engine, giving us another angle for looking at the same object. For the musician, this dive is endless. This work was composed for the Black Pencil ensemble and was a finalist for the Black Pencil Prize 2021.
